For more than 15 years, Paula has been at the forefront of the well-being conversation in the legal profession.  She is a trusted advisor and educator for lawyers and legal professionals in firms of all sizes, corporate legal departments, government legal departments, and in the judiciary. She recently completed a groundbreaking study with ALM to better understand the effects of burnout for lawyers and legal professionals, and she co-teaches a first-of-its-kind certificate course to educate lawyers and legal professionals about building engaged cultures.

She offers a variety of programs to help individuals, leaders, teams, and these programs can be delivered virtually, in-person, or using a combination of both approaches.

Many of her programs are supported by skills and frameworks from the Penn Resilience Program, the methodology and research in her first book, Beating Burnout at Work, and the mindsets created for her second book, Lead Well.  Some clients want to start with a shorter program to introduce a topic, while many clients have discovered that one hour isn’t nearly enough time to achieve their well-being goals.

Please see the menu of options below to learn more about the different ways I can help you achieve your team, leadership, and well-being goals.

Option 1

60 to 90 minutes

Shorter, introductory programs (60-90 minutes); micro-programs that combine several themes presented in a series of very short programs that are 30 minutes or less.

These programs are meant to provide a high-level overview of a topic and to give people a foundation in a particular topic and set of skills.

Sample topics include:

  • Lead Well: 5 Mindsets to Engage, Retain, & Inspire Your Team
  • Understanding Burnout – general audience
  • Leaders & Burnout – both how to lead through it and how to help themselves better manage stress
  • Teaming Up Against Burnout – taking a teams based approach to burnout prevention (supported by new research from her study with ALM)
  • Stress Resilience Strategies to Enhance Performance
  • Leveraging the Upside of Stress to Enhance Performance
  • Creating a Culture of “Sticky” Recognition & Mattering at Work
  • More Than a Paycheck: 6 Leadership Practices That Increase Meaningful Work
  • The Basics of Psychological Safety for Legal Teams
  • The ABC’s (Autonomy, Belonging, Challenge) of Workplace Engagement & Motivation in Law
  • Lawyer Strong: Resilience Skills for Individuals

Option 2

Two to Four Hours

For legal leaders, teams, and organizations who want a little more than the basics (2-4 hours).

Sample topics include:

The topics above (and others) can be expanded to go beyond the basics to include more discussion, skills practice, and more in-depth case studies.

Option 3

Longer Term

For legal leaders, teams, and organizations that are committed to a longer-term engagement that may combine in-person and virtual trainings, along with the potential for coaching and/or on-demand support (weeks – months).

These engagements typically start with an in-person introductory workshop, followed by a series of virtual or in-person trainings that are 1-2 hours in length, concluding with a summary program to conclude the learning. This format will also include “homework” assignments to try out specific skills and concepts and report back prior to the next workshop module.

Sample topics include:

  • Teaming Up Against Burnout – applying some or all of the frameworks and skills from her first book (supported by new research from her survey study with ALM)
  • Building Resilient Legal Teams – applying some or all of the frameworks and skills from my first book
  • Lead Well: 5 Mindsets to Engage, Retain, & Inspire Your Team – applying some or all of the mindsets she created for her second book
