Short Course Overview + Burnout and Individuals

75 minutes
You will learn:
  • Paula’s burnout story at the end of her law practice, and the impact it had on her work and health in general
  • Identify your icebergs
  • Research has pinpointed specific behaviors that healthy strivers utilize to help them perform at a high level and not burn out. Learn what these six behaviors and habits are.
  • Understand the interplay between your job demands and job resources. What are they and how can you start to identify yours (and coach others more impactfully)?

The Core 6 – Causes of Burnout & Prioritizing “Sticky” Recognition & Mattering

60 minutes
You will learn:
  • Introduce the Core 6 – it’s a key course framework. These are the six big root causes of burnout at work.
  • Define “sticky” recognition and mattering to understand why they are the low hanging burnout prevention fruit
  • Learn specific TNTs that increase both “sticky” recognition and mattering.

Creating Workload Sustainability

60 minutes
You will learn:
  • Unmanageable workloads are typically the #1 driver of burnout for many teams, and this is a complex problem. Where should you start? What’s within your control to address? There are two pathways to help.
  • Learn the teaming practices and systems that help teams navigate high workloads.
  • Learn the best practices associated with recovery from stress, along with the nuances associated with stress resilience. For example, taking a short break at work can help, but it doesn’t always help with these specific types of tasks.

Creating Workload Sustainability

60 minutes
You will learn:
  • Humans need three things to activate intrinsic motivation and drive at work – autonomy, belonging, and challenge (the ABCs). We all need a sense of control & flexibility, connection, and growth at work.
  • Learn specific TNTs that promote each ABC component.
  • New research reveals that the ABCs are the foundation of meaningful work. Learn additional leadership practices that create meaning at work.

MEET YOUR INSTRUCTOR:

Entrepreneur:  Paula Davis JD, MAPP, is the Founder and CEO of the Stress & Resilience Institute. For 15 years, she has been a trusted advisor to leaders in organizations of all sizes helping them to make work better.  Paula is a globally recognized expert on the effects of workplace stress, burnout prevention, workplace well-being, and building resilience for individuals and teams.  

Trusted Teacher: Paula left her law practice after seven years and earned a master’s degree in applied positive psychology from the University of Pennsylvania.  As part of her post-graduate training, Paula was selected to be part of the University of Pennsylvania faculty teaching and training resilience skills to soldiers as part of the Army’s Comprehensive Soldier and Family Fitness program.  The Penn team trained resilience skills to more than 40,000 soldiers and their family members.

Paula has shared her expertise at educational institutions such as Harvard Law School, Stanford University, Wharton School Executive Education, and Princeton.  She is a two-time recipient of the distinguished teaching award from the Medical College of Wisconsin.

Two Time Author: Paula is the author of Beating Burnout at Work: Why Teams Hold the Secret to Well-Being & Resilience (2021), and Lead Well: 5 Mindsets to Engage, Retain, & Inspire Your Team (2025).
